City Builds Condo In Middle Of Downtown Bike Lane
Toronto - Several Toronto cyclists are voicing their frustration after the city erected an eight story condo building inside a bike lane overnight.
Although the city and Metrolinx say it was absolutely necessary to construct the condo in the bike lane of the Parkdale neighbourhood, many residents are saying this is yet again proof the city is not thinking of the needs of cyclists.
“It’s very disruptive to my morning commute. Many people in this neighbourhood rely on that bike lane,” local cyclist Todd Simmons tells us, “There’s not even a warning or indication that a condo building is in the middle of the lane, and riders not paying attention may not notice it.”
The city says they have heard the concerns of local cyclists, and are considering putting up one pylon near the condo building to alert riders to it. They also wanted to point out that the condo building featured a state of the art athletic facility, and LCBO on the street level, and was easily commutable to the downtown core.
