9 Dead After Streetcar Riders Attempt To Share Presto Card

Bathurst Station - A gruesome scene unravelled at a downtown streetcar stop early Tuesday morning after a fare inspector opened-fire on a crowded vehicle in an attempt to stop two riders trying to double tap a Presto card.

9 riders have been confirmed dead, including 1 of the reported fare thieves, and 37 others are in critical condition.

Details are still unravelling, but one witness reported seeing one rider pass an already tapped Presto card to another individual boarding behind them. A fare inspector was quick to intervene, blindly unloading his firearm into the streetcar in an attempt to protect the TTC’s $3.35 fare.

The TTC released a statement praising the brave officer’s quick actions. The transit commission stated while only one fare thief was confirmed dead, it was very likely several others were also killed by the officer’s brave actions.
