The Next Daniel Day-Lewis? Canadian Actor Nicholas Campbell Embodies Senile Character By Actually Being Racist

By Dan Pearce

Culture - You might recognize Nicholas Campbell from various performances over his illustrious acting career where he proudly adopted method acting. Most recently, he has appeared as an elderly father in the Toronto-based procedural drama ‘Coroner’, a show which has the distinction of being the record breaking 5,000th procedural drama currently on television.

It would seem Nicholas was so committed to the role of senile old white guy that he brought elements of his character to a more recent feature film and reportedly used the N-word on set.

“As a Canadian actor, I've grown to accept that nobody is ever watching me, so I assumed nobody would hear me say it,” explained Nicholas.

The actor insists that he only used the slur because he was quoting someone else who said it, although two black crew members dispute that Nicholas said the slur to them directly.

In this writer's opinion, even if Campbell's version of events is the truth, when you're a white person telling a story that involves the N-word, maybe just say “the N-word”, instead of saying the N-word. The only person who would think less of you for choosing to not use a slur is Louis CK, who was coincidentally in Toronto around this same time two years ago, because it was the only city desperate enough to book him.
