In Lieu Of Daycare, Ontario To Provide Children With Three Paid Sick Days
Queen’s Park - The Ford government announced a new plan to help families struggling to cover the cost of child-care, along with the increasing risk of Covid exposure following the end of mask mandates.
An initial plan announced yesterday to subsidize child-care by 25% has since fallen through and will instead be replaced with a guaranteed 3 sick days for whenever a child inevitably contracts Covid.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce stated that with the growing risk of Covid in daycares and schools, it seems that sooner or later your child will be exposed to the virus. However due to the rising cost of living many children couldn’t afford to stay home.
“We hear countless stories of symptomatic children going to school because they can’t afford to quarantine for the recommended 5 days,” stated the minister, “With the help from the federal government we are working to ensure schools are 1.3% safer.”
The province will provide children one sick day by April 1, with another sick day scheduled for December, with the goal of having a third sick day by 2025.
