Stephen Lecce Says Ontario Students Will Have To Eat Lunch In Schoolyard’s Heated Patios

Queen’s Park - During his press conference today, Ontario education minister and Western University’s 2006 “Most Likely To Stain Tighty-Whities” Winner Stephen Lecce outlined new back-to-school protocols including a change to school’s lunch period.

“During this week of online learning, we have been outfitting schools with the most state-of-the-art equipment to ensure in-person learning can be conducted safely,” said the education minister, “This has included updated filtration systems and big tents with heaters in each yard to replace cafeterias.”

Following the province’s decision to stop indoor dining for restaurants but allow patios to continue, Lecce said schools will be making the same decision.

“It’s been clearly shown that outdoor dining is the safest way to consume food during a pandemic,” Lecce continued, “Which is why we have spent over $2.7 million purchasing large Coleman canopies for our students to safely enjoy their ham sandwiches.”

Tents have currently been installed in all schools across the GTA, and northern jurisdictions can expect them later this week after the province secures a shipment of propane for the heaters.
