Chiropractic Patients Experiencing Miraculous Recoveries During COVID-19 Lockdown
By Quentin Miller
Toronto - In what has been described as no less than a modern scientific miracle, tens of thousands of patients are reporting the absence of symptoms related to their back and neck pain while in isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The stories of the recovered patients are remarkably similar. "Ever since the lockdown and not being able to attend my regular, weekly chiropractic appointment, my symptoms have slowly subsided and I feel like I'm 20 years old again," said 57-year-old Tom Wallace, from Burlington.
"I've been going to see that chiropractor for the last 7 years and haven't missed an appointment," Wallace continued, "But I just wasn't able to feel better for more than a day or two after the appointment and ended up having to go back again and again."
Researchers at McGill University in Montreal attribute the mass recoveries to a phenomenon they're calling, 'natural healing'.
The university’s chief researcher, Dr. Rose Schmidt, tells us, “In layman's terms when one avoids having their spine cracked, their body appears to fare better and heal quicker."
A spokesperson for the Society of Chiropractic American Medicine said that while they were happy to learn of the recovery of patients, they recommended that all recovered patients should return to their regularly scheduled chiropractic visits as soon as the lockdown is lifted.
"We don't want people thinking that improvements to their diet, daily walks, stretching, a sufficient amount of rest, and allowing the body to heal from back and neck strains is a sustainable business model for chiropractors,” said Douglas R. Bacon, DO, a spokesperson for the society.
Mandy Flowers has been seeing a chiropractor twice a week for the last 11 years, following a fender bender in which she suffered an extremely mild whiplash injury, says, "The pain has finally subsided, and it's amazing how much money I'm saving. The insurance payment stopped coming 6 months after the accident and I've been paying out of pocket since then."
According to her calculations, Ms. Flowers was spending approximately $3,000 per year on chiropractic visits. "I'm looking forward to taking a vacation for the first time in a decade, once this lockdown is over. I just couldn't afford it before but now with this money, I look forward to seeing a beach again!”
