City Announces “Car-Only Tuesday” In Kensington Market

Toronto - The newly formed Toronto city council has voted to institute “Car-Only Tuesdays” as part of a new Kensington market pilot project. Local roads will be closed to pedestrian traffic except if you are visiting a local establishment and you have parked your personal vehicle in the market. Pedestrians will only be allowed to make right-turns on sidewalks to prevent pedestrian through-traffic.

Jason from Oshawa is excited at the prospect of visiting the eclectic neighbourhood, “I love to cruise around Toronto in my F-150 and unfortunately Kensington market has always felt inaccessible. I think it's a great idea.”

Stephanie from North York is also impressed by city council’s latest decision, “I love to admire Toronto's more diverse neighborhoods from the comfort and safety of my Lexus. I can finally go and check it out!”

Some local community groups and residents are not viewing the decision favourably. “I don’t get it. How come I can’t turn left on Tuesday?” asks Jose, a local resident, “This will significantly impact the directions I can walk, it’s pretty ridiculous”.

Ridiculously smart, city council would contest as they are set to start blocking off sidewalks next Tuesday. Signage will be added the day-of to ensure residents are aware of the change.
