In Latest Bid To Curb TTC Fare Evasion, CEO Rick Leary Is Just Standing In Union Station With A Gun
By Ryan Lancaster
Toronto - In his most recent attempt at stopping fare evasion on the TTC, CEO Rick Leary has taken to standing on the subway platform at Union Station with a pistol, brandishing it at passersby who he believes “look poor.”
Stating that the shame and blame strategy of stopping fare dodgers hasn’t gone far enough, Leary has decided to take matters into his own hands.
“I was trying to board when he suddenly jumped at me and threatened me with a gun,” said one concerned commuter. “He shouted, ‘made you flinch’ and then demanded I pay twice because I’m such a chickenshit.”
When asked for comment, a TTC spokesperson said, “The TTC is committed to ensuring all passengers have a safe and fair commute. Mr. Leary has decided the best way to ensure this happens is by demanding at gunpoint to see proof of purchase.”
We raised the question of the safety of this strategy with the spokesperson who simply replied, “Would you really rather we stuck a TPS officer there instead?”
