Loblaws Says Chicken Now Costs $100 A Kilo After Chickens Ask For A Raise

Food - Loblaws CEO Gallen Weston announced yesterday that the price of chickens in Canadian grocery stores would see a significant increase after supplying farms agreed to increase the wages of their chickens.

Citing the increased cost of living, several Canadian chicken farmers have agreed to pay their chickens a higher wage for their often very short work period on their farms. The result has led to a drastic increase in cost for many chicken products, such as chicken breast costing $100/kg and eggs nearing almost $50 per dozen.

Weston warned that prices could continue to go up if more Canadian workers received raises just like these chickens, specifically at places such as Superstore, No Frills and City Market.
