Ontarians Celebrate Something
Ontario - It’s the May long weekend and that means Ontario residents will be gathering together to enjoy an extra day off work in celebration of… winning the War of 1812?
Maybe today is the day we gained independence from England? No that can’t be right, the queen is still on all our money.
We know it’s referred to as May 2-4, but it’s not even the 24th today. And there’s no chance we actually have a holiday devoted to a case of beer. Or, do we? If anyone were to have a holiday for that it would probably be Ontario but… no there’s no way.
Our graphic designer Chloe is pretty sure she once heard her grandmother call it “Victoria Day” but we’re not really sure who, or what, Victoria is. Our best guess is it’s the city in BC, but why would we celebrate that? Is this a national holiday?
Well whatever, either way you get today off so go enjoy a barbecue and beers with some friends. Because there’s one thing we know for sure about Canadian holidays, it’s definitely celebrating some problematic colonial shit and next year this will be a solemn day.
