Toronto Couple Who Lives Paycheque To Paycheque Excited By Recent Liberal Changes To Capital Gains

By Andrew Scott

Toronto - Enthusiasm was palpable across Leslieville, Parkdale, Roncesvalles, and the Christie Pits neighbourhoods of Toronto upon hearing the exciting and exceedingly relevant news that the Liberal government was planning to take the initial legislative step toward increasing the inclusion rate on capital gains this upcoming Monday.

“Despite the fact that our family, or the families of everyone we know who lives and works in Toronto have no savings, no investments, zero retirement funds, and are barely scraping by living paycheque to paycheque, we are all truly riveted by Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland’s work to increase the inclusion rate on capital gains of more than $250,000, said graphic designer and Ossington-area resident Sandra Francis, between shifts at the local bakery where she has taken on a part-time job in order to try and make ends meet.

“Agreed,” said itinerant TDSB teacher Michael Schmidt, who is having trouble affording rent in this city as inflation has now outpaced his wages for three consecutive years. “Good news stories such as this reinforce just how in touch with the everyday concerns of average Canadians Trudeau and his Liberals truly are.”
