TTC Announces Cell Service On All Above-Ground Portions Of Subway Lines

By Scott Slute

Toronto - Transit riders will finally be able to use their cell phones during select portions of their ride thanks to a new partnership with Canadian telecom providers. Riders will now experience full 5G cell service from all major providers during any point in their journey where the train isn’t underground.

Rosedale, High Park and Davisville stations, the five minute ride to Yorkdale, all of the Scarborough LRT and that little bridge over the DVP will now have full cell phone access for all riders until the trains return into tunnels. Underground portions of the TTC will continue to offer no cell service.

With the growing number of crime being reported on the TTC, the transit commission felt it necessary to provide riders a sense of security. The TTC says should you ever need to report suspicious activity on your commute, simply wait until your train breaches the surface and try to call 911 before it goes back underground.

The TTC says they are currently in talks with both Rogers and Bell to have dialup internet installed into all streetcar cables to allow riders access to the internet during their 3 hour commutes.
