Trudeau Requests F-35’s Include Hybrid-Electric Option

Ottawa - After announcing they were in negotiation talks with U.S. defence giant Lockheed Martin to purchase F-35 fighter jets, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has stated the purchase will be contingent on the aerospace supplier being able to provide a greener engine for the planes.
“It’s important that when upgrading our air fleet for the impending world war, we consider the environmental impact these planes are having while they rain hellfire down from the sky,” stated Trudeau, “I’m positive the good folks at Lockheed Martin care just as much about the well-being of our planet as I do and will find a way to equip these planes with greener engines.”
Along with the environmental concerns, the rising cost of gasoline is playing a major role in the request for hybrid engines in the fighter jets.
“I mean between the trade embargoes and my carbon tax, it’s already costing you and arm and a leg to fill up your Camry,” the Prime Minister continued, “Image the cost of filling up a conventional F135-PW-100 afterburning turbofan?”
Lockheed Martin says they are currently working to ship the Canadian jets with electric engines capable of traveling nearly 88km on one single charge.
