Ford Announces Release Date Of Long Awaited Highway 401S
Toronto - Newly re-elected Premier Doug Ford is fulfilling his campaign promise to make Ontario less affordable with his announcement that the highway 401S is almost completed. The updated highway is expected to open by June 31st.
Ford began construction on the next-gen highway in early 2020, but ran into delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The follow up to the popular 401 highway will include several new features including upgraded traffic cameras and additional pixels in road signs. Ford also revealed that the asphalt colour has been updated from black to space grey.
Highway 401S will run parallel to the original highway and will cost drivers just $9.99 a month. Highway 401 will remain free to drive until the end of the year, when the province will officially discontinue it. Ford hinted that by the end of the summer Highway 401C would be completed, including some of the same new features but in a smaller size and at a more affordable price.
