City Demands Drivers Who Run Over Cyclist Must Promise They Won't Do It Again

City Hall - In an unprecedented ruling by the courts, drivers involved in major collisions involving pedestrians or cyclists must promise they will not do it again, under oath, before they get their license reinstated. The ruling comes after 4 years of painstaking planning and research by the cities top officials to better combat road safety for all.
“It’s a huge step forward, but it wasn't an easy decision,” says Henry Dodge, the city's chief safety official. “Drivers won't like this, especially those who have murdered pedestrians before, but enough is enough, they have to be accountable and they need to promise not to do it again"
Drivers will have the ability to appeal the decision and can drive during the lengthy appeals process.
Jonathan Dinkler, who got his first taste of bloodlust running over his wife over 10 years ago is not happy. "I've been living, driving and running folks over for almost 10 years now and I am disappointed. With the increase in gas prices and the weak dollar, why should I stay in the city if I have to promise to not run people over?"
