City To Open Pickleball Courts On The Gardiner's Closed Lanes On Weekends

By Nikola Kramaric

Toronto - Starting next weekend the city will be opening a dozen pickleball courts on the closed lanes of the Gardiner Expressway. The courts are in response to resident's complaints about the visibly empty closed lanes of the city's main downtown commuter artery. "We have heard the complaints loud and clear," the city's top planner commented. "The Gardiner is a critical piece of city infrastructure and we have 2 lanes completely open on the weekends, let's put them to use!" The courts will open first to construction crews next weekend to thank them for their weekday efforts. John Garrison, a commuter from Oakville comments, "I love Pickleball and recognize the lack of access to courts, but I just cant help but think there could be some kind of more practical way to use the expressway that could also expedite the opening of its closed lanes". No such magic exists said the city, and unfortunately the pickleball courts are expected to delay the opening of the lanes to 2028.
