Stephen Lecce Confirms If Teachers Are 15 Minutes Late Students Can Legally Leave
Queen’s Park - While discussing how the province plans to handle the 2023 school year, the education minister has confirmed that the longstanding myth has recently been passed into law by the Ontario government.
“Our government is committed to, above all. putting students first,” stated Lecce, “Which is why if a teacher is absent from the classroom for at least 16 minutes Ontario students now have the legal right to just go.”
Students who do leave the classroom, which is their right, are encouraged to spend the rest of the day doing their own self-education such as looking for cool rocks, but are also free to just go home. They will also not be expected to do homework that night because technically the teacher didn’t assign it, confirmed the Ontario government.
The education minister also noted that teachers who were gone for more than 15 minutes would be docked their pay for that day.
Lecce specified that students would have to wait until the second hand on the clock went all the way around for the fifteenth minute, but as soon as it hit 12 students were legally allowed to go.
