New CRTC Ruling Will Force All Streaming Services To Only Show Episodes Of Murdoch Mysteries
Ottawa - The CRTC has doubled down on it’s decision to force streaming to register with the media tribunal, and has put forward a new ruling that will only allow Canadians to stream old episodes of Murdoch Mysteries.
The regulatory body says the move has been made in an effort to promote Canadian content and ensure fair access to the long running period-drama. Effective November 1, services such as Netflix and Disney Plus must pull all non-Murdoch content from their Canadian servers and replace it entirely with seasons 1 to 16 of the beloved program.
The move has been met with mixed reviews from Canadians. Fans of the show applaud the decision and are excited to have unlimited access to looking at star Yannick Bisson. While Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre says that the character of Constable George Crabtree may encourage residents of Newfoundland to also pursue their dreams.
The new ruling will also impact podcasts within Canada, stating they must include no less than 70% content related to Murdoch Mysteries. This means podcasters who wish to release within the Canadian content will no longer be able to discuss cancel-culture or NFL gambling parlays, and will instead be forced to talk about topics such as the discrimination James Murdoch faces as a Catholic in a predominantly Protestant city.
