Health Canada Approves Pfizer Vaccine For Raccoons

Health - The countries most beloved critters will be breathing a sigh of relief as Canada has approved the first COVID-19 vaccine for raccoons.

Health units throughout the country will begin rolling out their Raccoon vaccination initiatives later this year, starting with the region home to the biggest raccoon population, Toronto.

“Being home to one of the highest population densities for raccoon, we believe it is important to begin this rollout in the City of Toronto,” said Dr. Supriya Sharma, Health Canada's chief medical adviser, “Those raccoons practically live on top of one another!”

The approval comes after several days of extensive research that showed the vaccine was 90% effective at preventing COVID-19 in raccoons, with barely any side effects worth mentioning.

Doctors say that once raccoon vaccination rate is high enough, the animals will be able to return to their normal lives.

“Once fully vaccinated, we will allow raccoons to remove their adorable little masks and stop needlessly washing their hands,” says Mayor John Tory.

The street-roaming raccoons were not the first in the city to be vaccinated however, as the raccoons in the Toronto Zoo have been fully vaccinated for two months following the zoo’s mandate on animals.
