Subway Service Suspended On Line 1 Due To A Train On The Tracks
By Gabriel Venneri
Toronto - The TTC has suspended service on the entirety of Line 1 this morning after receiving reports that there was a train on the tracks.
Crowds of commuters waited on platforms across the line wondering what was going on. “I was on my way to work when I heard what I think was an announcement about…something? I don’t really know, all I could hear was ‘Attention all passengers on line one…’ but the rest of it just sounded like when the adults in Charlie Brown talk,” stated one rider.
The station attendant who witnessed the shocking train on the tracks situation had this to say, “I’d never seen something like this before, it came down the tunnel and then just stopped inside the station. During rush hour; that’s unheard of. I thought that this train couldn’t be one of ours, that’s when I decided to alert transit control.”
To clarify the reason for the service disruption, TTC CEO Rick Leary issued this statement: “At approximately 8:07 this morning we received reports that there was a subway train spotted at track level at Dupont station. Shortly after, another train was seen at Spadina station. Whether these incidents are connected or not is yet to be determined. We have decided to halt all services on line 1 and parts of line 2 until we can figure it out. The one TTC shuttle bus is enroute, and to show that I care, I’ll be personally shuttling as many passengers as I can fit in my Toyota Corolla.”
As of this writing, the issue has still not been resolved. The shuttle bus and Rick’s Corolla are operating.
