Vacationing Torontonians Look Forward To Spending Relaxing Weekend At Pearson Airport
By Andrew Scott
Mississauga - As our neighbours to the south begin their Memorial Day weekend celebrations in honour of the US soldiers who died during acts of service, many Toronto travelers set to join in the festivities are anticipating a fun-filled weekend stuck at Pearson airport.
According to Martin Bladstone, who was hoping to spend the weekend with his brother-in-law and family in Columbus, Ohio, the airport’s staff shortages, unnecessary insistence on the mandatory (but never actually checked) ArriveCAN App, overbooked flights and now a Pearson-planned weekend emergency exercise, will mean that he and his family get to enjoy a weekend of wandering aimlessly through Terminal 1, flipping through People Magazine at Relay and eating Thai Express.
“I mean upon reflection,” states Bladstone, “the multiple dinners we had at Twist by Roger Mooking last December was really the highlight of our family’s Christmas vacation.”
In recognition of the ongoing challenges at Pearson, the airport’s website currently advises passengers to arrive at least three days early for either international flights or a coveted seat at the bar at Beerhive.
